Got any ideas?

Well, here’s the brutal truth.

As of today I weigh more than I ever have before.

I weigh more than I did on the way to the hospital to deliver any of my babies.

My youngest “baby” is now five years old.

That is shocking information to process. Maybe not too hard for you to process because let’s face it…you can tell. It’s just hard for me to process because I’m the one that has to do something about it,

I feel totally overwhelmed. I don’t know where to begin. I’m scared of failing for the 1000th time.

Got any ideas on how to lose weight?

Here’s some things that I’ve been thinking I need:

• A plan that WILL work!
• And I mean fast!
• Something that I can do for the rest of my life.
• It needs to be easy. You know…not use up too much brain power.
• If possible I would still like to eat what I want. ☺
• I would like to be able to go to restaurants and still be able to stick to the diet.
• I would like for everyone I know to be on the same plan as me so we could encourage each other to stick to the plan.
• I don’t want to take medicine that makes me feel crazy.
• I also need a good plan for exercising that I can do at the house.
• I would like to see instant results.
• I would like all this to be cheap or free.

Okay, so I know one or two of these isn’t going to work out for me. If so...I would already be skinny.

Do you have any ideas on what I could do to get started. And don’t say exercise and eat healthy. I’ve been ignoring that all my life.

Brandi,

I'm sorry to hear you are feeling down about this. I know that it is a difficult thing to accept. I have a degree in Kinesiology or in human terms physical fitness.

I can honestly say that even though you don't want to hear it, eating healthy and exercising is the most important thing you can do for yourself. But, if that isn't appealing, here are a few things that can shed a few pounds if you stick with it.

*if you drink sodas or anything caffinated, cut back big time (this is a very hard one for me) the caffine in any drink actually triggers the release of cortisol which is the stress hormone. It stimulates the burning of muscles and not fat.

*You have to raise your heart rate a certain percentage for 30 minutes a day at least 3 days a week. That does not mean that you have to run like Marion Jones for 30 minutes, but it does have to be elevated about 60% of your normal heart rate for 30 minutes to burn any fat. I can ask you for stats if you want and calculate what your target heart rate is for adequate exercise. Technically, you need more than 30 minutes because usually you are burning off meal calories for the first 30 minutes and you do start burning fat until the meal calories are spent. So the longer you keep your heart rate up the more stored fat you will burn.

*You burn more calories if you go from anaerobic to aerobic exercises, so before you raise your heart rate, do some sort of strength training such as lunges, bicep curls, tricep extensions, calf raises, ab exercise, wall sits, push up, whatever you can think of to isolate different muscle groups (MAKE SURE YOU STRETCH FIRST!). It is so important that you immediately go to cardio following this. I bought a belly dancing video that is kind of different and fun. If you rest too long inbetween strength and cardio can ruin the effects. It is proven that you will continue to burn calories for a longer period of time if you exercies this way. Depending on the intensity of the workout you can burn a high amount of calories for up to 2 hours after your work out.

I know it is so hard to get started with a new lifestyle, but it is so worth it. After week two it will not be near as frustrating. If you can make the habit for 21 days you will find it much easier to keep going. So commit 21 days to eating healthy and 14 of the days to exercising as much as possible. You could take Miles to the mall and walk around at a quick pace (not shopping of course, but it is warm or cool inside and it has markers posted that tell you how far you have walked, so you can feel some accomplishment.

You can do it! You owe it to your family not just yourself. I know that you want to be the grandma that the kids can't get enough of. Whatever future hope you have should be your motivation. Your health will come back and eat you alive if you don't make changes now. This has happened in my family too many times, and I lost 3 of my 4 grandparents to major health problems by the time I was 16. They weren't at my wedding and they will never meet my children. THey missed my high school graduation and didn't get to visit me in college. I would trade anything I could for them to have cared more about their health in hopes of them being alive today. I'm obviously not saying this WILL happen to you, but I think our nation has forgotten that how we live now and eat is a huge indicator of how long we will live.

Not to mention, our bodies are the Lord's. He did not give them to us to abuse. He gave them to us to use for His glory and fame. Being healthy is honoring to him because we are showing him that we appreciate this amazing intricate house he has given our spirit to dwell in.

I hope this helps you and gives you some encouragement or motivation!

I just started Herbalife . . today, actually. Kevin Hagan lost 40 pounds and 31 inches in 3 1/2 months. It is not terribly expensive, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Kevin's having a weight loss challenge in Abilene at the salon on Monday nights @ 6 (I think). It's $35 to "buy in", but the winner gets all the money at the end, which is December 21st. You don't have to buy any of his products, but you can still join the challenge.

Anyway, he's doing one in Clyde on Wednesday nights & that's the one I'm doing.

Most important -- you can do it!!! :)

I know Turbo Jam has a bad rap because the 1st ones she put out was a lot of kicking and punching and jumping around. I have a bad knee(broke it in the past). So I can't do a lot of jumping . But I love love love turbo jam. I have purchased several turbo jam dvd's on e-bay and amazon for under $20.00 each. My favorite is the
3-T workout. Its working out with tubes(they sell these for $14.99 at wal-mart) So you do a 35 minutes work out with the exercise tubes. She also has several other work outs that you can do with small hand weights and not much jumping. I just purchased a new one that is Turbo Jam with an exercise ball. I love this one too. Most of the dvd's I do purchase are around $14.00 each.
Just a thought.
