Good News:
I'm feeling 100% better. I can't tell you how bad I felt Friday! Really, the Lord healed me! Whatever I had I don't think it was "supposed" to be only three days. I'm so thankful.

Bad News:
3 of my kids have strep throat...and vacation is in...um...one day. That is if Holli will still let me come to her house with three kids having strep throat.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Oh we're going. Believe that.

So Sweet.

Last night the boys and I were playing Monopoly. When I walked through the living room I came upon this wonderful scene. Jocie read Randy and Miles to sleep. How sweet is that? It just made my heart happy.

I love the Beach!

Only 11 more days until vacation!

I'm so excited! We're going to the beach in Corpus Christi! Another thing I'm so very very very excited about is that on the way up there (on the 30th) we're going to spend the night with Brandon and Holli in San Antonio. I miss Holli so much! We're going to have a great time together! I can hardly wait to see her family!

Our hotel is right on the beach! We're taking all the kids except Miles. I think he would have a miserable time. My Mom and Shirley will take turns taking care of him.

Anyway, I'm so excited! I'm ready for a week without having to share Randy with his work!

She Has What?????

Hey, here's something interesting...

You know how I thought that everyone in the family but Miles and I had the chicken pox?

Well, it wasn't the chicken pox!

Jocie got covered in spots again last week so I took her to the doctor and he said, "Have you been in a hot tub lately?"

Yep, sure have.

"You've got Folliculitis."

(That sounds scary!)

It's also called Hot Tub Rash. It's an infection in the hot tub. Lovely.

Jocie got a perscription and a cream and we were told to call the Hot Tub place and see what we need to do. It's not going to be that hard to fix it. We got the stuff from the spa place.

Dr. Wiley asked who serviced our hot tub and I said, "Uh, Randy."

Dr. Wiley just smiled.

So, that's why no one was itchy or had fever...they didn't really have chicken pox...although it looks JUST LIKE the chicken pox! Anyway, I thought that was funny.

PARENTING...Money

Early on Randy and I decided that we would watch what we say to our kids about our money situations. When I was a kid I knew way too much about our money situation. My Mom was a single Mom raising three kids and she did the best she could. As far as I’m concerned we had everything we needed. The problem was that I was always told that we didn’t have any money. Being a kid I didn’t know what that meant. I didn’t know if we were going to get kicked out of the house or if that meant that we just couldn’t get the toy I wanted. Either way, as a child I thought too much about money.
A child can’t do anything to help the parent make more money. That being true, there’s no sense in children knowing the details of the money situation.
If we’re at the store and the kids want something, regardless if I can afford it or not my response is:
1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Not right now.
4. You should save up for it.

I do not tell them that I don’t have enough money for it.

What about when you’re at the store and you are buying a few things, but when your child asks you to buy something for him you say no? The kid wants to know why you get to buy something but he doesn’t.
This is when you have to remember that you’re the parent. You just say, “This is what I’m buying today and nothing else. I don’t want to spend my money on anything else today.”
That’s it. You’re the parent. You’re the one with the money. That’s not cruel or harsh. You do not involve the child in the bill paying and you don’t involve the child in the shopping unless that’s what you’ve gone to the store to do.

So, my advice is: Watch what you say to your kids about money. There’s no need to put a burden on them that is premature.

Ouchie Wowchie!

We spent all day Friday at the pool. Randy ended up coming with us which was a blessing.

Some of us got a little sunburned. Some of us didn’t get any sunburn at all.

One of us got CRAZY, RIDICULOUS, EVERYTHING HURTS…WHY DIDN’T HE PUT SUNBLOCK ON…SUNBURNED! More like sun-scorched!

Tell me…why did Randy’ knees not get sunburned?

I'm so Blessed!

Today is Spencer's 8th birthday!!!!

He got a $7 gift card from Children's Church and he asked if we could go to Wal-Mart so he could use it. I said yes.

I took him today and what did he want to buy?

I'm not kidding!

This was HIS idea!

HE WANTED TO BUY HIS MAMA SOME FLOWERS!!!!

He picked me out some beautiful flowers and then bought 2 baseballs with the rest of the gift card! How incredible is that? My sweet boy!

Burritos, Wine and Skating

Today the kids and I were eating at Taco Bueno on South 14th. The girls asked if we could Pllleeeaaaassseeeee go to the Skatin' Place after we ate.
Joey said, "Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen."
I said not today.
Then Melody said, "But it's just right over there. We can just walk there."
Spencer replied, "Yeah well, Pinkie's is just right over there too, but that doesn't mean we're going to walk over there!"

(For those that don't know, Pinkie's is a liquor store.)

All the way home Spencer was pleased with his quick wit. He repeated it all the way home and continued to remind me of how funny he is.

PARENTING

Friday night I was asked by Cherith if I had any advice to give. To which I replied, “Yes. I have lots of advice. Are you looking for anything in particular?”

She wanted parenting advice about having children close together.

I gave her a cheap joke instead of real advice.

The next day I could not get her request out of my head. I realized that I was asked parenting advice by three different people in one week.

All the time I’m asked: How do you do it? What do you do to make your kids so good? How do you discipline your kids? What would you do IF…

Well, I think I will take at least once a week on here in Blogville to pass out Parenting Advice. Some will be Old. Some will be New. Some will be Borrowed. Some will be Blue?

My qualifications to being an Advice giver are: Joey, Spencer, Jocie Melody and Miles. Also, I have 9.5 years experience. Also, this is My Blog so I can put anything on here that I want.

Hey, I actually wrote all that before today’s sermon so I feel really good about this now!

COMING SOON…My 2 cents about Parenting.
